McLaren Vale d'Arenberg The Dead Arm - Syrah 2006
The wine
Dead Arm is one of the jewels in this famous Australian winemaker’s crown. The wine is produced from vineyards affected by a local disease that causes one of the arms of a vine to die, enriching and increasing the concentration of berries on the other arm. This intense, powerful and structured wine takes its name from this disease.
About the Producer Domaine d'Arenberg
The Arenberg domaine, which is over one hundred years old, has established its credentials as an iconic Australian winemaker. Affenberg offers a wide range of some sixty cuvées from its eight vineyards. This highly segmented production means that it can create wines for immediate consumption as well as fine quality vintages for laying down. Arry took over the family domaine in 1959. He added a very distinctive red stripe to the labels, which enhanced the popularity of the domaine. However, the high reputation of the wines is largely down to his son Chester. He was an avid learner during his many trips to Europe and took home all the techniques which he deemed relevant. His cuvées are produced in parcels and he lavishes equal care on the vines and the vinification process. The domain grows over 33 grape varieties!
