Bourgueil des Chesnaies (Domaine) Cuvée Vieilles Vignes (no reserve) 2000
The wine
This Borgeuil immediately charms us with its lovely ruby colour, exuding fruity and spicy notes. On the palate, its delicate tannin grain allows it to pair with white meats. To do this, the domain vinified Cabernet Franc at a low temperature to preserve the freshness of its notes. The wine was then subject to malolactic fermentation in wooden foudres.
About the Producer Domaine des Chesnaies
Philippe and Stéphanie (brother and sister) are the fifth generation to manage this domain which was created in 1889. Planted predominantly with Cabernet Franc (85%), the vines are grown with environmentally friendly and sustainable practices and there is grass cover in some of the rows. In the winery, grapes grown on gravelly soil are vinified in stainless steel vats to retain their fruitiness while grapes grown on chalky clay soil are vinified in wooden tronconic barrels to improve their longevity. This property is one of the appellation’s best names and is especially known for wines with a good ageing potential.
