"Le Bon Pasteur 2009 has a generous bouquet with dark berries, sloes and mulberry with lifted alcohol. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It has a core of rich dark berry fruit with hints of molasses and bay leaf. (...)"(N.Martin/R.Parker 01/2013)
The wines are supple, fruity, very well-structured and particularly harmonious.
Surrounded by Château Canon, Tertre-Daugay, La Gaffelière and Belair, Château Magdelaine's vineyard has two distinctive features - its soil, with a limestone plateau and clay slopes, and substantial height variations ranging from 25 metres to 75 metres. Magdelaine's wines, which have the highest proportion of Merlot in Saint Emilion, have acquired an excellent reputation thanks to JP Moueix, who purchased the property from the Chatonnet family in 1952. As Château Magdelaine and Bélair-Monange's vineyards have been merged, Château Magdelaine no longer features as a Premier Cru Classé B in the list of Saint Emilion's grands crus classés, following a revision in 2012.
