Lot presentation

Vin de France Cotillon des Dames Jean-Yves Péron 2016

The wine

This Savoie vin de France comes from Domaine Jean-Yves Péron, and is a blend of Jacquère (85%) with Roussanne (15%) grapes. Jacquère is a native varietal typical in the region’s production. The vines – between 30 and 120 years old - grow across 2 hectares of sloped land at 400-600 metres of altitude. No synthetic products are used in the vineyard, and natural treatments are preferred. The soil is worked with pickaxes and winches.
Work in the winery involves little intervention. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are macerated with their skins, hence the lovely, orange hue this wine takes on. The wine is then matured in wooden containers.
Complex and deep, this orange wine has a nose of exotic fruit, apple, honey, and lemon. On the palate it has delicate tannins, finishing with a pleasant bitterness.

About the Producer Jean-Yves Péron

Jean-Yves Péron is a trained enologist who created his own domain in January 2004. He began by buying micro-parcels in Conflans, a medieval site in Albertville. Nowadays, his indigenous grape varieties (Mondeuse for the red wines and Jacquère for the whites) grow on two hectares of hillsides (between 400 and 600 metres of altitude). In addition to these, he also grows other varieties such as Persan, Altesse and local Roussanne. The vines are between 30 and 120 years old. He uses neither fertilizer nor any synthetic weedkillers, opting instead for natural treatments (nettle for example) and tilling the soil. His work in the winery is remarkably non-interventionist, or ‘natural' even; after manual harvests, the grapes undergo carbonic maceration and are punched down once or twice a day in order to extract a good dose of colour. Some of his wines have no sulfites added to them.
