Cru d'Arche-Pugneau 1990
The wine
Located in Preignac, not far from the famous Château Yquem, this family domain has been producing fine, dessert wines for several generations. Their 11 hectares are vines are found on a terroir that lends itself well to the development of noble rot, the phenomenon key to making Sauternes and other sweet, Bordeaux wines. The blend is made up of 80% Sémillon, a grape that confers all the structure sought, a feature derived mainly from the gravelly soil in which it grows. The Sauvignon Blanc that completes it brings exceptional aromatics, along with a small amount of Muscadelle for a very recognisable floral hint. This is a charming wine that finishes nicely on notes of citrus. Matured in oak casks, this cuvée develops aromas of nuts and honey after a few years. It will serve well alongside white-fleshed fish or blue cheese.
