Vintage description 1981

A mixed vintage for the wines of the Rhône Valley, pitting the excellent, rich southern wines against their thin, angular northern cousins. Thanks to its microclimate, Cornas achieved greater maturity resulting in full-bodied, tannic wines that nevertheless feel austere. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape are remarkable. The wines are rich, well-structured with intense aromas.
