Languedoc | 2010 vintage

A marked trend towards drought is becoming normal in this region and made its mark on this vintage in the Languedoc/Roussillon. After a dry, cold winter then small amounts of spring rain, there was no rain to speak of between May and the harvests! The best cultivated wines (as in almost all organic and biodynamic domaines), have roots which burrow deep into the ground and were fortunately able to avoid water scarcity. Grapes were generally quite small, and juices were rather concentrated with dense substance. The best reds are therefore meaty and fragrant. White wines are dense and taut. No single appellation was conspicuously better or worse than any other. Variations are especially apparent in the level of skill exercised by wine growers.
