Older Grenache vines are definitely a factor in this wine's impressive depth.

More info

Domain Comando G seeks to produce wine from old Grenache vines, hence the G honoured in its name. This cuvée comes from 60-70-year-old vines grown in sloped, granite soils. This is a single-varietal wine for which the harvest is carried out by hand following biodynamic practices. The vinification involves very little intervention. After destemming and cold maceration, the grapes ferment in open barrels. The wine is then matured for 12 months in 700-litre barrels. The wine is light and fresh, reflecting its colour. On the nose, there are mineral and floral notes, and a touch of blood orange. On the palate, this cuvée offers a biting acidity yet some power. It should be served at 16°C and pairs nicely with dishes like ratatouille and aubergine.

About the Producer Daniel Gomez Jimenez-Landi

Daniel Landi and Fernando Garcia are childhood friends. They decided to crzeate Comando G in 2008 in the mountainous Sierra de Gredos region, not far from Madrid. The went on the search for vineyards planted in the most difficult, remote areas. Garnacha (Grenache) is their grape variety of choice, and their ambition is to make wines which rival the elegance and finesse of a Burgundian Pinot Noir or a Syrah from Hermitage. The 10-hectare domain is entirely biodynamic, and the vines aged 50 to 80 years, planted between 850 and 1,200 metres of altitude on soils of sand, granite, ardoise and quartz. The combination of well-draining soils, high altitude and a clement micro-climate guarantees a long growing season, wines which are not too high in alcohol and extremely refined.
