Daniel Gomez Jimenez-Landi

A short distance away from Madrid, domain Comando G (for “Commando of Grenache”), has clearly shown its ambition to produce the finest wines possible from Grenache, tending its vines biodynamically and bringing the terroirs of Sierra de Gredos back to life. At between 850 and 1,200 metres above sea level, vines aged between 50- and 80-years old produce admirably refined wines that offer remarkable aromatic power.

Daniel Landi and Fernando Garcia are childhood friends. They decided to crzeate Comando G in 2008 in the mountainous Sierra de Gredos region, not far from Madrid. The went on the search for vineyards planted in the most difficult, remote areas. Garnacha (Grenache) is their grape variety of choice, and their ambition is to make wines which rival the elegance and finesse of a Burgundian Pinot Noir or a Syrah from Hermitage. The 10-hectare domain is entirely biodynamic, and the vines aged 50 to 80 years, planted between 850 and 1,200 metres of altitude on soils of sand, granite, ardoise and quartz. The combination of well-draining soils, high altitude and a clement micro-climate guarantees a long growing season, wines which are not too high in alcohol and extremely refined.
