Vintage description 1953 Burgundy

The spring of 1953 was extremely early and also very hot. The vegetation, which was three weeks ahead of the norm, was then held back by the cold and rainy weather in June and July. The weather was very good and particularly favourable to ripening from the beginning of August to the end of the season. The grapes were all in very good condition and were harvested under excellent conditions. As regards quantity, this varied tremendously according to the region and was generally quite average. The wines were particularly good in the Bordeaux region. The wines are developing well. The red wines are a lovely colour and are very refined. The white wines are fine and balanced.
