Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts Comte Liger-Belair 2009 (Red)

Domaine du Compte Liger-Belair (also called Château de Vosne-Romanée) is recent, it was created in 2000 by Viscompte Louis-Michel Liger-Belair. But the family settled in Burgundy well before that date. The Château de Vosne-Romanée was acquired by Louis Liger-Belair in 1815, with a domaine that was then 60 hectares (including the famous plots of La Tache, les Malconsorts and les Brulées!). The family history in the twentieth century was subsequently tumultuous. The domaine was sold at auction in 1933, before the two brothers (and Count Michel) redeemed a part of it and notably one of the jewels of Vosne: La Romanée, the smallest AOC of France (0.84 ha). The plots were left for sharecropping with winemakers and Burgundy houses. In 2000, the arrival of Louis-Michel Liger-Belair changed everything. The domaine was recreated, he put an end to the sharecropping of La Romanée and other plots by Bouchard and took over the bottling (from 2001 to 2005, part of the production was still bottled by Bouchard). The 9 hectare area is managed following the principles of biodynamic agriculture and is now one of the best of the Côte de Nuits.

Ce domaine iconique de la Bourgogne ne renaît qu'à partir des années 2000 lorsque Louis-Michel Liger-Belair hérite des vignes familiale et qu'il fonde le domaine. Détenteur du monopole La Romanée, qui a la particularité d'être au-dessus de la Romanée-Conti, mais plantée perpendiculairement à elle, offrant une exposition plus douce au soleil, les vignes regardant le Nord et non l'Ouest. Cet ingénieur agronome et oenologue a su redynamiser les vins de Bourgogne, proposant des vins aux aromatiques élégantes, florales et fruitées. Ce 1er cru, Les Petits Monts, est l'un des mieux situés de la commune de Vosne-Romanée puisqu'il se situe juste-dessus des Richebourg, sur un terrain plus escarpé. La vigne du domaine y a été plantée en 1959 et le domaine en détient 0.1297 hectares très précisément. La parcelle présente une forte pente, caractéristique du calcaire de Comblanchien. Le sol, très riche en calcaire, apporte aux vins une structure minérale et une longueur impressionnantes. Au nez, son élégance florale rappelle les grands crus dont il est voisin. Seule en bouche manque la matière, qui n'est pas aussi imposante que pour un grand cru. Cela n'en demeure pas moins un très grand vin, qui pourra être bu autant sur son fruit qu'après une très longue garde.
