Domain: Château Sansonnet

Château Sansonnet is to the east of Saint Emilion, on the upper part of Saint Emilion's plateau, precisely at the summit of the uneroded deposits of asteriated limestone, at an altitude of about 86 metres on the traditional terroir of the Grands Crus Classés. The property has a rich history, being owned in the 19th century by Louis XVIII's prime minister, the Duc Decazes. Since 1999 it has belonged to the Aulan family, who have completely relaunched the wine in terms of quality. A combination of Cabernets and Merlot have been planted. The property produces a second wine: Château Lasalle. A substantial investment programme has been implemented, both in the vineyard and in the winery, with a view to revealing the full expression of the terroir, assisted by well-known consultants such as Stéphane Derenoncourt. Marie-Bénédicte Lefévère took over the management of the property in 2009. In 2012 Château Sansonnet gained Grand Cru Classé de Saint Emilion status.
