From a family of wine makers, Jean-Claude Lapalu settled at the family domain in Beaujolais in 1982. After a few years of sending his grapes to the cooperative, he started making his own wines in 1996. He gradually found his own path and discovered his own style, developing natural vinifications with little intervention. The work in the vineyard has become much more eco-friendly and more respectful of the terroir. The 12-hectare vineyard is certified organic, the soil is ploughed, and the rows are covered with grass. Jean-Claude Lapalu has a superb viticultural heritage, including many mature vines, some of which are over 100 years old. A top Beaujolais domain!
About the cuvée
Jean-Claude Lapalu is a winemaker from Beaujolais who you will most certainly have heard of. He has forged himself a superb reputation by creating flavoursome wines using organic cultivation and natural vinification, that is to say with the minimum amount of intervention possible. To make this Eau Forte wine classified under the Vin de France appellation, he therefore favoured ploughing the soils as well as growing grass between the vines which enables local microbial life to thrive and encourages the vines to draw, from deep down, the nutrients necessary for them to flourish. Weedkillers and chemical fertilisers are therefore banned and, in the cellar, the work is just as careful in order to preserve both the unique qualities of the 40-year-old Gamay vines and the distinctive character of the original granite terroir. Tasting reveals a particularly fruity and floral wine which is both sumptuous and subtle, luscious and elegant. We recommend enjoying it when it is young. Its concentration will be echoed in a dish with sauce, regional cooked meats or a hard cheese.
