The wine

The Barolo from domain Giacosa is a single-varietal Nebbiolo, the appellation’s most noble grape. As is stipulated in the Barolo criteria, this cuvée was matured for two years in oak casks. It is full-bodied, structures, powerful and rich in notes of red and black fruits, dried flowers, earth and leather. This cuvée was made when the vintage was good enough, making it a true legend. A rarity that is no longer crafted, it demonstrates the savoir-faire of its producer and his love for the terroir. With excellent ageing potential, this lovely cru should be served at an ambient temperature with characterful dishes like slow-cooked lamb or roasted quail with mushrooms.

Information about domain Bruno Giacosa

Bruno Giacosa, who passed away in January 2018, was an iconic Italian winemaker, notably in the Barolo and Barbaresco appellations. His career began very early at the age of 13, when he helped his parents in the family wine business. He also learned very young about grape selection during harvesting. This allowed him to establish a reputation as an excellent négociant. Before acquiring his own domaine (Azienda Agricola Falletto), he vinified grapes from prestigious crus. On the domaine, red wines are macerated in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. White wines are aged in stainless steel and Barberas and Nebbiolos are aged in large oak barrels. Ageing lasts between 1 and 3 years and the wines are then stored in bottles for a while prior to sale.
