Only produced during great vintages and awarded 100/100 by the eminent Robert Parker. More info
Located between two of Languedoc’s emblematic domaines, Daumas Gassac and La Grange des Pères, the La Pèira en Damaisèla domaine offers up a superb single-varietal Mourvèdre here, which is the result of ‘supervised control’ cultivation methods. At the head of the domaine which spans 11 hectares, the Languedoc lawyer Karine Ahton and the Australian music composer Robert Dougan have chosen to work as precisely and carefully in the vineyards as they do in the cellar. This ultimate southern grape variety has therefore undergone an expert vinification with very little intervention.
Their work has been greatly rewarded with numerous accolades, most notably by the eminent Robert Parker who gave it a 100/100. This wine is made for cellaring, and is only produced during the greatest vintages. It has a seductive garnet colour, complex aromas (black fruits, liquorice, meat) and is generously full-bodied on the palate, with a lingering finish leaving flavours of black fruits, mocha and tobacco. This wine will be a marvellous accompaniment to dishes full of character such as lamb, a potimarron gratin with chestnuts or an aubergine riste with grilled meat.
Located in Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian, half way between La Grange des Pères and Daumas-Gassac, the La Pèira en Damaisèla domain is a recent creation (2004). Karine Ahton (a Languedoc lawyer) and Robert Dougan (an Australian composer) are the founders of this 11-hectare domain in the Terrasses du Larzac, which they immediately set out to position at the top of the range, with a highly quality-oriented approach. Work in the vines is very precise and meticulous; in the winery, the key is as little intervention as possible. This domain has been praised by international critics (Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, etc.), as "Many observers consider this to be the most exciting estate in the Languedoc" (R. Parker).
