Rasteau Domaine Gourt de Mautens - Jérôme Bressy serve at a temperature of 10°C. It will pair perfectly with the following dishes: Lapin au curry, Gratin d'endives au jambon, Asperges rôties à la feta.
Si le terroir de marnes argilo-calcaires de Rasteau est surtout connu pour ses rouges charpentés, il engendre aussi de très beaux blancs. Pas moins de six cépages entrent dans la composition de cette cuvée, au sein de laquelle bourboulenc, grenache blanc, marsanne, picardan, picpoul et roussanne ont chacun un rôle à jouer. Les vieilles vignes âgées de 50 à 80 ans, cultivées en bio depuis plus de trente ans, et en biodynamie depuis 2008, produisent des rendements très limités, autour de 10 à 12hl/ha, donnant naissance à des baies gorgées de soleil et très concentrées. Vendangées à la main, elles sont triées à la vigne puis au chai. L’élevage se poursuit douze mois en foudres et en demi-muids. Le vin obtenu est un nectar à la robe dorée, au nez expressif porté par des notes de poire, de pêche, d’herbes fraîches et de miel. La bouche ample et mature est soutenue par une belle tension acide, apportant un parfait équilibre, avant une finale aux beaux amers.
Gourt de Matens is the Rasteau appellations biggest name. A family property for many generations, this 15-hectare domain is now run by Jérôme Bressy (since 1996), and is split into various parcels on slopes, terrasses, and foothills. The vineyard has been grown organically since 1989 and biodynamically since 2008. Grown here are some regional classics like Grenache, Vieux Carignan, Mourvèdre and Syrah, as well as some older grape varieties from the Rhône valley like Counoise, Vaccarèse, Terret, Cinsault, Picpoul and Picardent. Work in the vineyards is demanding here with very low yields of around 10_12 hl per hectare. The vinifications are low-intervention and the process is never set in stone, with methods varying depending on the vintage. No additives are used apart from a very small amount of sulphur after fermentation. Finally, the maturation is very long, 2 years for the whites and 3 for the reds, carried out in demi-muids and concrete vats, followed by further ageing after bottling. The wines from this domain are sublime and distinguished by their finesse and their remarkable tannins. They have wonderful maturity and great cellaring potential.
