Lot presentation

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint Jacques Duroché (Domaine) 2019

The wine

The estate has been sublimating the finest appellations in the Burgundy winegrowing landscape for around five generations. The Pinot Noir vines thrive on the prestigious premier cru plot of Estournelles Saint-Jacques, consisting of limestone and marl. Each vine, averaging 40 years, is closely monitored and respected to ensure it flourishes. In the vineyard, each step is dictated by what is known as ‘winegrowing common sense’, to extract the quintessence of the terroir. In the winery, the winemakers listen to the grapes and continually reassess their approach. The winemaking process is punctuated by moderate extractions, without any sulphur. The cuvée is then aged for around 14 months without racking.
The ruby-red colour with purplish reflections reveals a bouquet characterised by aromas of red fruit complemented by light hints of wood. On the palate, the vibrant attach leads to a persistent and a finish.

About the Producer Duroché

Domaine Duroché has been managed by the same family for five generations; they bottled their wines for the first time in 1933. Their vines now span 8 hectares in the Côte de Nuits' top appellations, including Gevrey-Chambertin premier and grand cru and Chambertin Clos de Bèze. For these producers, having top quality grapes is expedient to making good wine. To grow healthy grapes, soils are tilled and grass is allowed to grow between rows; synthetic products are not used. The same philosophy presides in the winery. Extractions are moderate, the élevage lasts between 13 and 15 months and the wines are bottled without filtration. We particularly enjoy these wines for their fruit-driven character, whether drank young or after some cellaring.
