Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction (8 March 2026)

The 65th edition of the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction will take place on Sunday 8 March 2026 at Château du Clos de Vougeot with iDealwine/IWA bringing down the hammer. This is a unique occasion to acquire very fine Burgundian wines, all while doing a good deed!
This edition of the auction will be extra special as it is the last vintage to be vinified by Jean-Marc Moron, Hospices de Nuits’ technical director, who has decided to hang up his secateurs and retire after 36 harvests at the estate.
The name of the charity that will receive the money raised by the sale of the charity pièce as well as the names of the ambassadors will be revealed soon. Keep an eye out!

What is the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction?

This auction, which is a major event in the world of fine Burgundian wines and the wine world in general, brings together wine enthusiasts from around the globe. About 150 pièces of roughly 20 different wines (a pièce is a 228-litre barrel) go under the hammer in aid of Hospices Civils de Beaune, a hospital in Burgundy. It groups together the Beaune medical centre, the hospitals of Arnay-le-Duc, Seurre and Nuits-St-Georges, and the training institute for nurses and auxiliaries.
In 2025, the auction raised close to €860,000 thanks to a rise in the average pièce hammer price by 41.5%.

A charity pièce is auctioned to raise funds for a separate charitable organisation which changes each year.
The The charity Coucou Nous Voilou, which was the chosen charity last year, was founded in 2015 with the aim to improve the lives of hospitalised children and teenagers through a number of different activities – day trips, holidays, decorations, games, and murals of characters from comics and films. €53,900 for the charity were raised through the sale of bottles from the charity pièce.

What can you buy at the auction?

During the auction, no bottles will be up for auction but rather Burgundian pièces (228 litre barrels). There’ll be about 150 of them going under the hammer. Each one will contain one of the 19 different wines produced from the 12 hectares of vines owned by the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges which are located in the principal vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges. It possesses eight village plots that are blended together to create 4 different wines and nine premier crus, which include the Les Didiers single-ownership vineyard and a plot of Gevrey-Chambertin Villages called Champs-Chenys.

How does the auction work?

This auction, which will take place on Sunday 8 March 2026 and hosted by the auction house iDealwine, will be held in person at Clos de Vougeot and online on the Drouot Live website.

A charity auction in aid of the Nuits Saint-Georges hospital

Apart from the proceeds raised by the sale of the charity pièce (288-litre barrel) which raises funds for a charitable organisation other than the Hospices de Nuits Saint-Georges, the entire profit of the auction goes to the Hospices de Nuits Saint-Georges. This winemaking hospital, founded in 1270 – two centuries before the Hospices de Beaune – is a public health institution nowadays. New buildings were opened in 2018. The main focus is care and support of the elderly and palliative care, but the hospital offers classic healthcare too.

A look back at the 2025 auction

The 64th edition of the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction took place on Sunday 9 March 2025 at Château du Clos de Vougeot and was organised by iDealwine for the first time.

Nearly €860,000 was raised, an impressive result given the historically low 2024 harvest, decreasing the volume up for auction by 76%. Bottles and magnums from past vintages were also auctioned, an exception for this sale. All lots up for auction (35.5 pièces, 240 bottles and 120 magnums) were sold. A 41.5% increase in the average price was recorded, a figure close to 2022's record. The charity pièce raised €53,900 for the assosiation Coucou Nous Voilou, which was represent at the auction by its founder Marc Salem, and longtime supporters Chantal Ladesou and Philippe Candeloro. Please read our article about the results of the auction for more information.

The 65th Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Auction

Sunday 8 March 2026
65th Hospices de Nuits Auction

Pièces from the 2025 vintage up for auction

All of the wine produced by the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges estate is sold in this auction, which is the only way to purchase them directly from the producer.

The 2025 vintage at Domaine des Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges

With summery conditions from May until September, the harvest started on 3 September, delivering grapes of excellent quality. Such was their quality that hardly any sorting had to take place but having said that, the yield was rather low at 21 hectolitres/hectare on average. The initial impression following several tastings is that the wines possess very high quality and rather unique in the sense that they are structured and elegant, well rounded, offering impeccable balance and a charming profile. We can describe this vintage as atypical because the colour and acidity are at levels usually seen in hot years while the sugar levels are indicative of a normal year, as elegant as it is the epitome of the style of Burgundian Pinot Noir in all its complexity, and as structured because the wines are rich, well crafted and an indicator of a superb year for Burgundy, and thus, capable of ageing. 2025 “is living up to the usual reputation of years ending in a ‘5’, but with greater delicateness,” says the estate’s technical director. To summarise, 2025 is a high quality vintage but with limited quantities.
