Château Monlot Grand Cru 2009
The wine
This cuvée comes from clay-chalk soils where the vines are between 35 and 40 years old. The grapes are harvested at optimal maturation, early in the morning to preserve their freshness and aroma. After being sorted three times, vinification takes place in thermo-regulated steel vats and maturation in French oak barrels for 15 months. A wine with notes of black fruits and liquorice.
About the Producer Château Monlot
Château Monlot in Saint-Emilion (grand cru), is one of the region's historic domains, and it dates back to the 17th century. Since 2011, it has been the property of Chinese actress Zhao Wei. She was helped by Claude and Lydia Bourguignon and the oenologist Jean-Claude Berrouet to improve the quality of her wine as well as modernising the property with the addition of a new winery in 2016. The vineyard spans 8 hectares, planted mainly with Merlot and completed by Cabernet Franc – the vines are around 35-40 years old. The wine is matured for 12-18 months in barrels of 30-40% new wood.
