Pinot Gris (Tokay) Vendanges Tardives Fernand Engel 1996

The wine

Alsace wines labelled, "Vendanges Tardives" ("Late Harvest") are made from perfectly ripe (but not overripe) fruit. These powerful, rich, complex wines can reach up to 16% natural alcohol. Depending on the producer, the wines can be dry, demi-sec or sweet. Their deep, concentrated colour and incomparable bouquet of ripe, candied fruit make them a truly exceptional product. Smooth and velvety, they combine structure, substance and richness without being heavy. These wines are made exclusively from Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling or Muscat d'Alsace.
