The wine
Hubert Lamy produces this Premier Cru "Derrière chez Edouard" from 0.65 hectares of Pinot Noir planted in 1960. This Saint-Aubin develops aromas of strawberry and morello cherry. In the mouth, it is delicate and well made. It has an attractive, juicy fruitiness through the middle of the mouth. A wine with a superb long finish.
About the Producer Hubert Lamy
With 18.5 hectares spread over six appellations (which includes the Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru), Olivier Lamy – who runs the estate – is one of the best ambassadors of the Saint-Aubin appellation, which is sadly not well known and produces a superb alternative to Chassagne wines. These wines are perfectly pure, taut and elegant thanks to the carefully ageing work.
The Lamy family has been working in Saint-Aubin since the mid-17th century, about 1640. It was Hubert Lamy, Olivier’s father, who created the estate in 1973 with eight hectares of vines. The property grew in the 1990s before Olivier Lamy joined his father in 1995 after finishing his studies in wine and undertaking several apprenticeships to understand wine better. Father and son bridge the worlds of tradition and innovation together before Hubert passed away in 2022 at the age of 79.
In the vineyard as in the winery, the work is carried out meticulously following organic principals (non-certified). The different terroirs, which are densely planted to concentrate the grapes, are vinified separately in 600-litre barrels (with very little new wood). A not-to-be-missed estate in the Côte de Beaune!
