Richard Desouche - Le P'tit domaine
Certified organic since 2013, the estate is rooted in an attentive reading of its terroirs and in old vines, often 60 to 70 years old. Each parcel is approached based on its needs. In the winery, the approach to winemaking is low-intervention, involving native yeasts, gentle extractions and long ageing, allowing the wines to take shape slowly.
The wines reflect this philosophy with clarity – Cabernet Franc that are fresh and ripe without excess, fruit-driven, balance and effortless drinkability. Honest cuvées, very much in the image of their winemaker. “I’m not hoping to make the best wine in the world… but I’d quite like to be someone’s favourite,” he told us when we met him.
Born of a simple desire – to make his own wine – Le P’tit Domaine came into being in 2006 with just a single hectare. Today, it covers 4.75 hectares in Saumur-Champigny, which he tends alongside his responsibilities as vineyard manager at Clos Rougeard. A demanding balance, driven by the same pursuit of precision.
