Information
Located in Chichée, a small village southeast of Chablis, the Domaine Gilbert Picq and Fils has established a solid reputation over time. This domaine, created in 1873, covers 13 hectares of Chablis Villages and Chablis Premier Cru (Vosgros for 1.5 hectares and Vaucoupin for 0.5 hectares). Since 1976, Didier Picq has run the domaine, helped by his brother Pascal (in the vineyards) and his sister Marilyn (on the commercial side). In the vineyards, the traditional work is carried out in a sustainable manner and in the cellars, sur lie aging occurs in stainless steel vats for 8 to 15 months (depending on the cuvées) to preserve the freshness and purity of the fresh wines. Most of the vines are planted on a stony and clay-limestone soil. The domaine has several plots of old vines, over 60 years old, whose production is the most sought after in the field. Domaine Gilbert Picq's fine, sound wines generally demonstrate very fine minerality, are full-bodied, with fine acidity and a fine length on the palate.
The visual aspect of this Vaucoupin Premier Cru is straw yellow; the nose is slightly buttery, with notes of white-skinned fruit (peaches) and spices. It is an opulent wine in the mouth, with a mineral side and good length at the finish.
