Syrah grapes from two different terroirs bring depth and gentle minerality to the intense fruit flavours. Gentle flavours of spice, typical of this grape variety, add a dazzling touch to the tasting experience. More info
This is a 100% Syrah cuvee, with a dual profile as the grapes used to produce it were harvested on two different terroirs. On one side, two plots stretch across the arid slopes of Chavanay, set in granite soil. Just opposite, on the other side, the grapes bathe in sunlight on a Rhodanian terrace of pebbles. Benefiting from this gentle warmth, the grapes reach ideal concentration and ripeness.
Following a week of cold maceration, the grapes undergo a long, gradual fermentation. Ageing in French oak casks lasts 15 months.
In the glass, a deep, dark ruby almost black colour emerges. A fine nose of spices and truffles heralds a dense structure. As anticipated, the palate is powerful with pronounced but perfectly integrated tannins. The dual character of the Syrah adds a subtle mineral touch to the sapidity of the fruit, and is the perfect match for intensely flavoured meat, such as game.

The domaine du Monteillet has belonged to the Villard family for no less than 5 centuries and nine generations! The family’s most well-known member is Louis Hector, duke of Villard and Louis XIV’s Marshall of France (1653-1734). Stéphane Montez has been running the property since 1997, having travelled the world to work in all sorts of different vineyards. His experience in the four corners of the world allowed him to develop new techniques in the family property and to respond to potential climatic difficulties. The vineyard is spread over 14 hectares and three appellations (Côte Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, Condrieu).
