We all know Corsican domain Antoine Arena. Yet, in recent years, a second figure from the same family has emerged. His son Jean-Baptiste, who came back to work at the family domain after studying law, has brought with him an organic and biodynamic view of viticulture. With a decade of experience under his belt, he turned his attention to a unique terroir, that of Grotte di Sole, where he produces top quality wines that are said to be both ‘energetic and luminous’.
Son of Antoine Arena, Jean-Baptiste Arena now grows grapes on the terroirs of Grotte di Sole (both red and white) as well as Patrimonio (white). The domain currently spans 5 hectares; he is progressively taking over the running of the family domain. The philosophy is much the same as that of his father: intransigence in the vineyard and winery alike, inputs are banned and respect for the terroir is the top priority. The vineyard is tended biodynamically and all the work is done by the family. The wines are full of energy and purity, raised in vats and concrete, with meticulous maturation periods. Year after year, Jean-Baptiste produces highly digestible wines.
