Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Heitz-Lochardet 2018
The wine
Morgeot is a famous climat in the Burgundy appellation of Chassagne-Montrachet, which is split between the cultivation of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Domaine Heitz-Lochardet makes this white wine from vines that soak up the nutrients needed for them to flower from clay and limestone soils (below the parcel) and silt soils (above) by using sustainable growing methods that encourage soil health. Vinification is carried out using as little intervention as possible as the grapes arrive in the cellar in a perfectly healthy condition. The wine is aged for 11 months in barrels which are made of around 20-40% new wood.
This wine, which is made to be stored for around 10 to 15 years, has a mineral element, which becomes delicately saline and has notes of white fruits, citrus and rosemary.
About the Producer Armand Heitz
Armand Heitz comes from a family of wine négociants in the Côte de Beaune. In 2012, after completing a degree in oenology, he decided to return to the family property where he wished to bring the vine culture back to life. He now has 20 hectares to work with, alongside his brother-in-law Augustin Ceyrac who manages Domaine de la Combe Vineuse. Passionate about agronomy and about agriculture more broadly, Armand has decided to lean towards agro-ecology and regenerative agriculture in his production in order to ensure the protection of his vines and the quality of the resulting wine.
