The wine
François Bertheau, the fifth generation of the family to run this estate, has created a Chambolle-Musigny of extraordinary elegance. The Pinot Noir vines planted on the estate, averaging around forty years, benefit from an oceanic climate with semi-continental influences, and draw the nutrients they require to thrive from soils consisting of marl, clay and limestone. Driven by a keen understanding of his terroir, the winemaker nurtures his vines with the utmost precision and performs traditional vinification, which culminates in a year and a half’s ageing in oak casks where the proportion of new wood is not excessive, ranging from 20 to 30%.
In the glass, the wine displays a beautiful ruby-red colour that develops brick-coloured hues over the years. Notes of small red berries, black fruit, and floral aromas such as violet, combine with a hint of pepper on the finish emerge from the glass. The wine also releases aromas of sweet spices and humus, typical of the ageing process. We recommend a five-year wait before you enjoy this wine to savour the finesse of its round, seductive tannins.
