The wine
The Trousseau and Poulsard vines grow on the steeply sloping terroir of Pupillin, also known as the Poulsard world capital. The rich, predominantly marl soils receive perfectly balanced sunshine, guaranteeing a cuvée of the highest quality. Each plot of Poulsard and Trousseau is tilled mechanically, with no chemical weedkillers, and is supplemented with natural fertilisers. In the winery, the harvested fruit is completely destalked and vinified in stainless steel vats, with no sulphur added, in the most natural way possible, to guarantee the purity and typicity of the cuvée. The cuvée is then aged in old oak casks before being bottled.
The bright ruddy-red colour reveals an expressive bouquet of ripe fruit aromas mingling with delicate hints of spice. The flavoursome and generous palate reveals a beautiful tannic structure culminating in a long, delicious finish.
About the Producer Overnoy
Overnoy is an icon of the Jura. This family domain in Pupillin has been overseen by Pierre Overnoy since 1968. Overnoy refuses to use chemical products or sulphites and has an anti-interventionist approach to winemaking since ‘we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but rather we borrow it from our children’. In 2001 he passed the baton over to Emmanuel Houillon, his adopted son who now manages the 5.5 hectares vineyard with his wife Anne. With Chardonnay, Savignin and Poulsard vines, this domain has organic certification and also employs biodynamic methods. The white wines from this domain are intensely aromatic and have plenty of personality, not to mention great ageing potential. The reds are characterised by their silky texture and freshness. Since the end of 2015, wines from this domain have broken records at auction and, after very difficult 2012, 2013 and 2014 vintages (vine diseases and bad weather), they have been increasingly hard to come by.
