This is a stately Gewürztraminer Vendanges Tardives: sweet but tempered by a lively palate and a hint of bitterness. An unbeatable dessert wine which rewards a good cellaring.

Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives Cuvée Christine Schlumberger 2006
The wine
This cuvée comes exclusively from Grand Cru Kessler. The grapes are harvested by hand and are brought to the cellar for a lengthy pressing with a 3 day settling; the clear juice is then fermented for 1–2 months in barrels. The resulting wine is the colour of radiant straw, offering frank, candied notes on the nose with emerging aromas of exotic fruit, flowers and mild spice. Persistant in the mouth, it has a lingering bitterness held in perfect balance by a lively acidity. This is a fantastic food wine, less sweet than others of its type, pairing beautifully with gingerbread flavours and exotic fruit.
About the Producer Schlumberger
Domaine Schlumberger was founded in 1810 by Nicolas Schlumberger who upon settling in Guebwiller, bought 20 hectares of vines. Several years later, third-generation vintner Ernest Schlumberger acquired several new parcels, undergoing huge groundworks which installed terrasses and horizontal planting throughout the vineyard. Today, Eric Beydon-Schlumberger is head vigneron and continues to produce internationally-renowned wines on this domaine.
