More infoA particularly widespread grape variety in the heart of the Rhône Valley, Grenache Noir is the closest relative of Grenache Gris and Grenache Blanc. All three varieties are robust, resistant to the vagaries of the weather and deliciously fragrant. Domaine de la Rectorie blends 90% Grenache Gris with 10% Grenache Blanc to produce an authentic, flavoursome oxidative wine. The grapes are entirely hand-picked to preserve both the fruit and the soil. Once harvested, the grapes are pressed immediately. The wine undergoes oxidative ageing in barrels without topping, which imparts powerful, flavoursome aromas.
The rich amber colour reveals a rich, expressive bouquet, with delicious dried fruit aromas combined with hints of roasting and spices. The lively, powerful palate reveals a superb balance of vibrant aromas and a slight bitterness that is refreshing yet subtle, leading to an incredibly long finish. This cuvée promises excellent ageing potential.
About the Producer La Rectorie
Situated in Banyuls in the Roussillon, at less than a kilometer from the sea, La Rectorie (7 hectares) was passed down to the Parcé bothers. Having returned to the family property in the 1980s, Thierry and Marc extended their Banyuls production to that of very high quality dry white wines. Work in the vineyard wears the peasant traces of their great-grandmother, Thérèse's roots (animal draught cultivation, manual harvests, use of local grape varieties, etc.). Nowadays, it is managed by Marc and Thierry Parcé, for whom the age of the vines, the use of the ‘original' grape varieties and the controlled yields (20 to 25hl/hectare) are the key to successful vinifications. The domain bottles around 80,000 bottles every year. Most of the production is centered the vinification of Collioures rouges, but La Rectorie also produces white wines as well some Banyuls (15% of production). The wines are not fined.
