Jack Daniel's Of. Gold Medal 1954 Limited edition
The wine
A re-edition of a bottling of Jack Daniel’’s that was awarded the gold medal at the Brussels Star of Excellence in 1954. Jack Daniel’’s has released several commemorative re-editions and limited editions of bottles that won gold medals at competitions, including the St. Louis World’’s Fair in 1904, Liège in 1905, the Exposition Universelle et Internationale de Gand in 1913, the Anglo-American Exhibition in London in 1914, the Certificate of the London Institute of Hygiene in 1915, the Star of Excellence from the Institut International d'Alimentation of Brussels in 1954, and Amsterdam in 1981. Each bottle has a different shape. This bottle is the sixth in the series. The story goes that an employee of the Lynchburg distillery named Herb Fanning took three bottles from the production line to send them to the competition at the request of Reagor Motlow, much to the disdain of the marketing team, who had hoped to offer something a little more special. He told them everything was special at Jack Daniel’’s, and its success at the competition confirmed this. Herb was later featured in several ads for the famous Tennessee Whiskey and would remain a famous Lynchburg figure up until his death in 1997 aged 93.
United States, Tennessee, Lynchburg. Distillery operational. Owner: Brown FormanIt is somewhat ironic that Jack Daniel's, one of the most famous distilleries in the world, is located in the heart of Tennessee in the Moore county, the same area that voted in favour of Prohibition in 1909. When the law was repealed in 1933, the Motlow family, who owned the the distillery at the time, had to fight for another five years for the distillery to be allowed to distil again. Despite the law being relaxed in 1995, it still remains a “dry county” to this day. Jack Daniel's is a model of stability. It remained in the family fold until 1956, before being bought by the Brown family, owner of the Brown-Forman company, who not only kept the Motlows (parents of the Daniel family) at the helm, but also made them part of the company's board of directors. Jack Daniel's is one of the most highly collected whiskeys due to its magnificent limited editions and the Replicas regularly released on the market.
