Information
About the producer

The Sine Qua Non winery was founded by Austrian born Manfred Krankl, who immigrated to California in the 1980s. After a few years spent opening restaurants, he settled in Ventura to make wine as a hobby. Encouraged by friends and family who enjoyed his wines, he started marketing it in 1994. His first wine was awarded an excellent 95/100 by Robert Parker. The famous American wine critic subsequently awarded him a multitude of 100/100 scores and even dubbed him “One of the most creative and multidimensional winemakers on planet Earth”. In 2004, he began growing his own vines and gradually stopped buying in grapes. His vineyard is a reference for Santa Barbara County, but his limited output means that his wines are extremely sought after.

About the wine

Originally from Montélimar, Roussane thrives in the poor soils, composed mainly of limestone and pebbles, found in this part of America. Known for their need to be pruned short, the vines flower in June before reaching optimum ripeness around mid-September. The cuvée's label is carefully designed by Manfred, who owns the estate with his wife Élaine. Together, they passionately work the Roussane grapes in a specific way to create a unique, authentic cuvée that reflects its terroir. Renowned as one of the most famous vineyards in California, the estate produces extremely limited quantities of red and white wines.
The light golden colour is characterised by an elegant and expressive nose revealing pure and delicate aromas of honeysuckle and peonies. On the palate, the floral flavours pair perfectly with an explosion of freshness, leading to a long and flavourful finish. This cuvée can be stored in the cellar to age for several years.
