One of the most famous Morgon wines. With more concentration and complexity than a Beaujolais Villages, this wine is one the region’s finest offerings. More info

Considered the ‘Pope’ of natural wine in the Beaujolais, Marcel Lapierre ran this eponymous domain that inspired a whole generation of wine growers. Their produce is coveted by lovers of fine Gamay that’s packed with flavour and sometimes even apt for cellaring. Today Marcel’s children, Mathieu and Camille, have taken up the task of celebrating and promoting Morgon, one of the region’s ten crus.
The family property’s Morgon wine is a blend of multiple parcels and terroirs. The Gamay vines draw their character from weak, acidic soil. Cultivated with great care, the region’s landmark grape variety is vinified with unmatched skill at this estate. Native yeasts set off fermentation and the addition of sulphur is banned. In the glass, we find a ruby-coloured wine with typical notes of black cherry and flowers like violet. On the palate, it has a pleasant texture and a flavourful profile, promising a peak ageing point of between three and eight years following its vintage.

Morgon Marcel Lapierre (Domaine) serve at a temperature of 16°C. It will pair perfectly with the following dishes: Plateau de charcuterie, Foie de veau poêlé, Tournedos grillé.

Information about domain Marcel Lapierre

Marcel Lapierre is "the pope" of natural Beaujolais, loaded with delightfully silky and voluptuous fruit. He inspired a generation of wine growers such as Jean Foillard and Georges Descombes, among others. Today it is his son Mathieu who manages the property (with organic certification) and preserves his father's style and philosophy. The vines, which are around 60 years old on average, produce fruit forward wines which command great respect. He follows biodynamic cultivation methods and his vinification process is very traditional (the whole grape undergoes carbonic semi-maceration in the Beaujolais style without the use of SO2). He is a master when it comes to the maturation process. With this exceptional Morgon terroir, Lapierre creates wines that boast immense fruit that are a beautiful example of a Beaujolais cru. This is one of the most legendary domains in Beaujolais and a sound investment.
