The wine
Domaine de Courcelles 1972 is a very old molasses-based rum from Guadeloupe. Distilled in Domaine’’s last year of production, it spent 20 years in oak casks before being transferred to a barrel to slow its ageing. Bottled in February 2019 by SODEMIC.
About the Producer Domaine de Courcelles
Domaine de Courcelles was founded in the early 1930s in Grande-Terre, Guadeloupe, and closed in 1964. The owner, Amédée Huygues Despointes, moved the stills to Saint-Marthe, where they continued to be used before it was closed for good in 1972, the year of the last distillation. The distillery produced molasses-based rum. The last casks were for a long time forgotten until being bought by an independent bottler, who took them to Marie-Galante and transferred the contents into oak barrels.
