Cépage persan

Persan is a red varietal from Savoie that is reputed for its exemplary aptitude for ageing. A fan of dry, sunny slopes to develop all its richness, Persan grapes have a delicate skin and juicy pulp. Its aromas of raspberry, kirsch and violet are generally well carried by marked tannins that refine themselves over time. It develops leathery notes that make it a perfect pairing with red meat and game. This is not a widely-planted varietal, though it is finding success with an increasing number of wine growers. And for those of you with a penchant for photography, the leaves take on a fiery red colour in the autumn to rival those of the finest maple trees.
