Generally very good red wines, although quite scarce which brought the prices up. These wines are powerful, with a lovely colour and assertive tannins; their firmness tends to disappear with age. Ausone, Haut-Brion and Lafite were particularly good. Once again, the Sauternes were magnificent, sappy and mellow with bags of finesse, although somewhat heavy.
