Vintage description 1972 Bordeaux

A mediocre vintage due to dull weather. The majority of the wines are thin, acidic and green. Even though their high level of acidity meant that certain wines have kept well, they leave much to be desired in terms of fruit, charm and concentration. Still dizzy on the euphoria of previous years, the wine-producers managed to sell their crus for exorbitant prices. Once the international press had revealed how mediocre the vintage really was, the prices dropped dramatically. There are however a few good Graves and Pomerols. The sweet wine harvest was a disaster and no d'Yquem was produced during this vintage.
