Vintage description 1983 Burgundy

The harvests were picked under good weather conditions with normal yields, although substantially less than what was initially predicted. This red wines were to leave a lasting impression on this year. The extremely heterogeneous quality was directly linked to the delicate and problematic grape material. Some wines had cork taint due to the hail and the bad sanitary state of the grapes. Others lost all their flavours after a few years. Finally the wines that showed promise, proved to be difficult in their youth, so condemning them to a long cellaring. They improved after a few years in bottles, acquiring a noble aroma with overtones of small fruits, characteristic of Pinot. These fleshy wines have structure and an unusually long finish on the palate. They will gain in harmony in the years to come. The white wines have an imposing opulence and richness. Some should be drunk now, while others can be laid down.
