A small vintage. Unfavourable weather conditions in the spring hindered the development of the vines. During the harvest, the Merlot vines were completely destroyed and the Cabernet Sauvignon vines damaged by Hurricane Hortense. The absence of Merlot produced acidic wines that were austere and lacking balance.. These wines have a long cellaring capacity due to the large proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, nevertheless, they are lacking considerably in depth and charm. Most of the great châteaux of Saint Emilion and Pomerol downgraded their production. The sweet wines, light and elegant, are more successful.
