Vintage description 1997 Burgundy

In Burgundy, the exceptional weather conditions that carried on through the summer resulted in beautiful grapes and an early, good-quality harvest. May was hot and dry, encouraging a rapid growth of the vegetation. The rain and storms at the end of August and beginning of September did not affect the start of the ripening stage. The weather was then exceptionally dry and sunny throughout the harvest. Ideal weather conditions and perfect grapes allowed the wine-producers to reach optimum ripeness. The Pinot Noir ripened quicker than the Chardonnay throughout the vineyards. The red wines are intensely-coloured. The nose is characterised by ripe fruit aromas. Supple and fleshy on the palate, they are already very pleasant. Their personality should assert itself with age. The white wines are remarkably rich and balanced. Ample, elegant and racy, they promise to be an outstanding vintage.
