Vintage description 2006 Northern Rhone

July's water stress combined with the coolness of August contributed to a very good vintage in the Rhône Valley, with wines made in the northern part of the region enjoying a slight advantage. Although they require a little ageing to reach the full excellence of their potential, cuvées from the appellations of Côte Rôtie, Hermitage and Gigondas are already elegant, with wonderful maturity and silky tannins. Both in the north and south, wines from the most complex terroirs enjoy excellent ageing potential. Whites from Condrieu and Hermitage deserve a special mention.
