A fantastic vintage in the Rhône Valley. The vineyards enjoyed good weather conditions until the beginning of the summer, with temperature differences between day and night as well as rainfall in May and June allowing the grapes to reach good levels of maturity. August was abnormally cool, leading wine-makers to anticipate a less favourable harvest, but September treated the vines to better levels of sunshine. To the north, wines emerge elegant and complex. In Côte-Rôtie, the harvest was generous and the wines are of good quality despite a severe hailstorm in the month of June, which was luckily compensated for by the early autumn season. The Colline d'Hermitage shows remarkable elegance, a wonderful fruitiness through which to appreciate its finesse. The Hermitage whites include some stunning wines. The wines of Cornas display average power but are pleasantly soft and silky. The Crozes-Hermitage should be consumed from their earliest stages: they are good but with no extensive ageing potential. The Condrieu wines are particularly successful, with wonderful minerality expressed through the terroir.
