2014 was a difficult year to manage in the Northern Rhône. The temperatures and dry weather suggested an early harvest - before the periods of heavy rainfall came. The end results are mixed although some prestigious crus have produced some excellent wines. The whites are slightly better than the reds. Generally speaking these wines are medium bodied and combine freshness and alcohol. The example of similar years though, such as 2008, shows that these wines could age well.
The year was therefore a mixed one. The best terroirs and best winegrowers have produced some very good red wines in Hermitage, Cornas and Côte-Rôtie, and white wines in Saint-Joseph and Condrieu.
