This was a difficult year in the Rhône. After a fine summer, the party was spoiled by significant spells of bad weather in September. At many domaines, the wines have a much thinner texture than usual. Grenaches in particular struggled to ripen fully. However, having screened their harvests repeatedly, winegrowers managed to produce some very successful wines in a fresh and drinkable style.
In Chateauneuf, the wines are fresh and less structured than usual. Often, domaines producing prestige or single parcel cuvées only made classic or "tradition" cuvées in 2014. However, the best winegrowers have produced very refined and drinkable wines which in previous years such as 2008, have been shown to age well. Of the other crus, Cairanne and Beaume de Venise produced some magnificent wines.
