Gigondas Hominis Fides Saint Cosme 2020

The wine

Hominis Fides is a great wine for keeping; look after it with great care. Made from very old Grenache grapes grown on calcareous sandy soil, it has been matured for 12 months in new barrels, second-use barrels and third/fourth-use barrels. The wine has ripe aromas but never loses the characteristic freshness provided by its climate. Deep and intense, it also reveals aromas of laurel and pepper.

About the Producer Saint Cosme

The historic Château de Saint Cosme in Gigondas has the site of a Gallo-Roman winery, complete with vats cut into the rock, in its grounds. The property has been in the same family since the end of the 15th century and 15 generations of wine makers have followed on from each other. Today, the vineyard comprises 22 hectares of old vines (more than 60 years old) and yields low volumes of grapes. The vines enjoy a cool climate that gives the wines their balance, finesse and freshness. The domain was following the principles of organic farming as far back as the 1970s and today it avoids herbicides, chemical fertilisers, pesticides and synthetic products completely. The Château supplements its own output with a négoce business, working with winegrowers who are passionate about their trade. Wines from this domain are fairly representative of their appellation and have plenty of depth.
