Arbois Savagnin L'Oubliée (50cl) Jacques Puffeney 1999
The wine
Finding wines by Jacques Puffeney is a heroic feat today, and for good reason. First established in the 1960s, but closed in 2014, a part of the vineyard was sold to the Marquis d’Angerville and the rest remains in the hands of the winegrower and one of his nephews. This cuvée is of such rarity that it would be a shame to pass it up. L’Oubliée is an Arbois wine made from Savagnin grapes, a noble and emblematic variety of the region grown here with precision and care. Harvested by hand, the grapes are delicately vinified, offering a concentrated and dense wine balanced by a wonderful minerality and a lively natural acidity. Notes of stewed fruits mingle with those of dried fruits and spices, such as saffron and yellow curry powder, leading to a full-bodied palate that will go down well at the table when paired with characterful dishes.
About the Producer Jacques Puffeney
Created in 1960 by Jacques Puffeney, the domain spans 6 hectares, spread over a dozen parcels. He farmed Poulsard, Pinot Noir, Trousseau, Chardonnay and Savagnin with meticulous care. Puffeney retired in 2014 and sold 4.25 hectares of the domain to Marquis d'Angerville (Volnay, Burgundy). He kept the rest for himself and one of his nephews.
