The wine
The domain harvests its grapes late so as to obtain a good level of ripeness. The talent of a great winemaker is to produce a balanced wine, even with almost overripe grapes, and that's precisely what Luca Martini di Cigala succeeds in doing. This Chianti is structured and powerful yet extremely well-made. It will gain in finesse with 4 to 5 years of bottle age.
About the Producer San Giusto A Rentennano
The estate can trace its history back to the mediaeval era, as it was fortified by the Florentines in 1204. It still bears the traces of these fortifications, notably in the ageing cellar. San Giusto a Retennano passed into the hands of the Martini di Cigala family by marriage in 1914. Today, it is managed by their descendants and their partners – Anna, Lucia, Elisabetta, Francesco, Alessandro and Luca. They have all played their part in achieving organic certification for the domaine.
