Galatrona, a dense, complex Brunello di Montalcino. A real icon at the very least.

More info

Galtrona (an Etruscan name) is produced from a three-hectare parcel planted exclusively with Merlot in 1990. The first vintage dates back to 1994, and a mere 20,000 bottles are produced each year. In the vineyards, yields are controlled to ensure the production of concentrated grapes with great structure, elegance and a perfect balance. In terms of vinification, maceration lasts for more than two weeks. The wine is very frequently pumped over, and great care is taken to extract all the elements fully. Malolactic fermentation in barrels is generally a rapid process. The wine is then left to rest in new oak barrels for around 18 months. During this period, the wine is left for the first six months on fine lees. This process results in greater complexity. After bottling, the wine is left to rest for around 6 months.

About the Producer Petrolo

This domaine has belonged to the Bazzocchi family since the 1940s and is now managed by Lucia Bazzocchi Sanjust and her son Luca. Together they produce high-quality wines which are aged for third parties exclusively in new vats to avoid adding too much flavour to the wines.
