The wine
The proportion of Cabernet Franc has been increased in the grand vin. This is a trend which has been observed in various Libourne estates as a result of global warming and the rising alcoholic content of Merlot. La Tour Figeac exudes aromas of blackcurrant, licorice and blackberry. The mouthfeel carries an intensely fruity punch. No heaviness, just superb balance from a refreshing acidity. A superb wine, ready for drinking after 10-20 years' keeping.
About the Producer Château la Tour Figeac
As its name suggests, Château la Tour Figeac is located in the region of Figeac in Saint-Emilion. It was actually separated from the current Château Figeac in 1879. Otto-Maximilian Rottenmaier now heads up this domaine, comprising a single 15-hectare block of vines surrounded by some of the greatest châteaux in Saint-Emilion (Cheval Blanc, Figeac) etc. The proportion of Merlot has gradually reduced from 75% at the turn of the millennium to its current figure of 50%. Massal selection methods have been used to replace Merlot vines with Cabernet Franc. Advised by Christine Derenencourt, the domaine operates on biodynamic principles. The wine is going from success to success… a fact which has not escaped the attention of the keener connoisseur.
