Vin de France Poudre d'Escampette Les Vins du Cabanon - Alain Castex 2022

The wine

This red cuvée comes from Domaine Les Vins du Cabanon and the talented producer Alain Catex. The vineyard covers a single-hectare plain in Trouillas, south of Perpignan, on a terroir rich in clay and sand. The centenary vines give extremely limited yields, requiring significant work by hand.
The grapes are vinified with little intervention. The bunches are destemmed before semi-carbonic maceration in vats for 5-6 days. The juice ferments using wild yeasts, and the wine then matures in concrete vats. This natural, red wine is a blend of Mourvèdre, Carignan, Grenache gris and noir, Macabeu, and Syrah. This wine is not filtered or fined, and there is no sulphur added.
It has an expressive nose in the glass, drawing nicely on notes of red fruit. It is crisp on the palate, fresh and lively. Overall, an easy-drinking wine that can be aged for 4 to 6 years.
